I think that Matt and Max miss the larger point here. The key to this sort of attitude is to instill fear. If mcsame claims that everytime a fly farts that it is the greatest. threat. to. our. future.EVER. Then people will turn to him to save them from the great insect gas menace.

To reasonable people this might seem odd, but in america if you want things done you sell fear. More than any other form of marketing, fear is the weapon of both 21st corporations and politicians.
That is the point of the mcsame's hysteria.
